Baked oats: a healthy breakfast recipe that conquered …

The TikTok social network is full of original ideas and inventions, but let’s face it, not all of them are brilliant. However, from time to time the platform gives birth to a culinary nugget that brightens up our limited days. After the famous pasta hack, the last miracle is called baked oats (baked oatmeal) and, after testing, we can assure you that the recipe is worth it.

In just a few weeks, this breakfast has appeared in the kitchens of thousands of people, seduced by the promise of its very simple recipe: although it contains only healthy ingredients, baked oats looks and tastes like cake. Yes, cake. Proof: The hashtag #bakedoats has gained over 460 million views on TikTok since February 2021.

Indeed, the basic recipe can be abandoned in a thousand and one ways, and as such, it provides the perfect canvas for inspiration. gourmets creative. The idea is to mix oatmeal, banana, egg and maple syrup into blender, before pouring everything into a small baking dish. The result is even better and much healthier than a mug cake! The most greedy add chocolate chips, peanut butter, cocoa powder, fruit… The possibilities are endless.

Basic Recipe

Repeated many times since it appeared on Tik Tok, but notably published on the American food blog eatbirdfood, which also offers a video procedure right on the platform.

Ingredients:

  • 45 g oatmeal
  • 65 ml almond milk (or milk of your choice)
  • 1/2 ripe banana
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1 pinch of cinnamon
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • Chocolate chips

Training:

Preheat oven to 180 degrees.

Place all ingredients except chocolate chips in a blender and mix well. Then add some chocolate chips and stir with a spoon.

Pour the batter into small heat-resistant molds or a similar container. Let it cook for 25 minutes.

Let cool slightly, then sprinkle chocolate chips (and some peanut butter) on top. Enjoy right in your little mold.

For the chocolate version: Add 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder and some more chocolate chips. Otherwise baked oats will be more like an American biscuit cake (which is also very tasty!).

If the original recipe baked oats obtained due to its airy and light texture, you can also try its cousin, baked oatmeal (baked oatmeal), in which oatmeal is not mixed, but is introduced into the dough as is. The result will be thicker and smoother, but a little less cake-like (as in the photo below).

Recipe for several persons, prepared in a rectangular dish (ideally approx. 20 x 20 cm), heat-resistant.

Ingredients:

  • 180 g oatmeal
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 500 ml milk
  • 1 tablespoon melted coconut oil
  • 50 g brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 very ripe bananas
  • Nuts or chocolate chips

Training

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees and grease the baking dish.

Mix dry ingredients (oats, baking powder, cinnamon and salt) in a large bowl.

Add milk, sugar, egg, coconut oil, vanilla and bananas. Mix well to combine everything, then add half of the chocolate chips or nuts.

Pour the batter into your bowl. Then add the remaining chocolate chips or nuts on top.

Bake for 35-40 minutes until the surface is golden brown. Leave to cool before eating. Can be cut baked oatmeal in individual portions before placing them in the refrigerator to reheat the next day (1 minute in the microwave).
