How to make Yoghurt Toast, the new obsession…

But why such a sudden passion of tiktokers for toast?! With millions of likes on the social network, recipes based on slices of bread are living out their finest hour. Or with avocado toast with egg (toast with grated egg and avocado) – not very green – prefer the famous toasted yogurt, the new breakfast favorite. Recipe videos posted under this hashtag have received over 23 million views in just a few weeks, and users of the platform are revisiting them endlessly.

The dish in question has a pleasant taste: it is simple and refined at the same time, vaguely reminiscent of the taste of French toast, in a less pasty and more consistent version. And contrary to what its name seems to indicate, it’s not about spreading yogurt on toast! The idea is to make a thin layer custard (custard) to be cooked on bread to give it the texture of a pie.

To prepare it, you will need some yogurt, an egg, cinnamon and honey, as well as a set of seasonal fruits. To test the original blueberry garnished version, we’ll have to wait until summer or use frozen fruit (this also works). Thus, many versions have appeared on TikTok: food blogger Caitlin Shoemaker (alias Frommybowl) in particular used grapefruit slices, and tiktoker Wellnesswhispers tested a version with cocoa. However, many of the most popular videos, such as those from influencers Feel Good Foodie and Vivianne Café, are basic versions with minimal ingredients.

Basic Recipe

Based on Tik Tok videos by Vivianne Café and Feel Good Fodie.

Ingredients:

  • 2 fairly thick toasts (whole or white)
  • 60 g Greek or whole grain yogurt
  • 1 whole egg or 2 egg whites
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
  • pinch of cinnamon

Fruit of your choice (small slices if possible. Red fruit is best, perhaps frozen when out of season). Chocolate chips can also help.

Training:

Preheat oven to 190 degrees.

Use the back of a spoon to lightly press down on the bread until it flattens slightly. This will allow the cream to spread more easily.

Combine yogurt, egg, maple syrup and cinnamon, then mix well. Pour or spread this mixture on two toasts.

Then arrange the fruit, then bake for 10 minutes. It is necessary that the edges of the cream layer become a little golden and that it sticks to the bread.

When the toast comes out of the oven, feel free to drizzle it with more maple syrup or honey, or sprinkle it with a little powdered sugar. To eat it while it’s still hot.

Enjoy lunch!
