5 fruits and vegetables a day? What if drinking them was easier than eating them? Smoothies invite themselves into our kitchens and allow us to gently mix innumerable fresh ingredients. To taste without moderation!
In English, smooth; smooth means smooth; smooth. Thus, smoothies refer to creamy and smooth drinks. The basis is usually fresh or frozen fruits or vegetables, passed through a blender. Otherwise, adjust according to your taste or your imagination. You can add crushed ice cubes, milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, ice cream, almonds, walnuts and why not aromatic herbs. As you can see, the associations are almost endless.
Vitamins (A, B, C, D…), minerals, fiber… smoothies allow you to benefit from the nutrients naturally present in fresh fruits and vegetables. Thus, this type of drink can be consumed at any time of the day: for breakfast, for dessert, and especially for a snack, as a fresh smoothie is ideal to wait until dinner.
Fruits but also vegetables
Even if the supermarket shelves are full of “ready-made products”, give preference to homemade recipes! It’s so easy and fast to do. Example? Try a fortified combination of pear and blackcurrant, enhanced with a teaspoon of honey. And if you prefer an even silkier consistency, mix plain yogurt with a peeled orange, half a banana, kiwifruit and, of course, a spoonful of honey. You’ll like it… Any banana left? Put it in a blender, add some milk or even honey and you’re done. Please note that if you are paying attention to your line, or if you are a diabetic, you’d better not add too much sugar.
In the vegetable section you will also find what you are looking for. Cucumbers, tomatoes, spinach, peas, beets, celery and, of course, carrots make a great smoothie base. This is a good opportunity to get your kids to eat vegetables. And especially so that they discover new tastes. Let them try, for example, a combination of peas, mint leaves and fresh goat cheese. They’ll love it, that’s for sure!
